Foods That'll Boost Your Mood RIGHT NOW

Foods-for-mood research never fail to fascinate me. It's all got a vaguely Alice in Wonderland feel to it, like if we just find that one perfect food, we'll be able to finally hold on the key to eternal happiness. But life with one perfect food would be so boring! That's why I'm glad to see there are at least five that are up for morning mood-boosting duties...

It's possible that happiness also comes from wearing a silly hat.

Health on TODAY has a lineup of from Prevention about mood-boosting foods, and some of them look like they could help a girl's brain find its happy place:
  * Greek yogurt: It's packed with calcium (more than in milk or regular yogurt), a mineral that triggers happy things to happen in your body. According to the article, if you don't have enough calcium, you face anxiety, depression, impaired memory, and slow thinking.

* Pastured eggs: With omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, B vitamins and iodide, eggs are supposed to jazz you up with energy. Just get your carton fresh from the farm, where hens are eating natural diets and laying hormone-free eggs.

* Honey: The quercetin and kaempferol inside honey can help reduce potentially depression-causing inflammation in your brain.

* Dark chocolate: Grab a square that's got the highest percentage of cocoa and eat up. It's supposed to give you an immediate boost in concentration and can improve the blood flow to your brain (so you'll feel more energized).

* Lemon macaroons: Don't mind if I do! These ones come from a recipe in The Happiness Diet, and they're filled with mood-boosting ingredients such as coconut and cirtus.

There are other great happy foods on the list, too: asparagus, mussels, cherry tomatoes, grass-fed lamb, blue potatoes, and Swiss chard.

I'm not exactly up for any of those this morning, though.
