Want to avoid losing friends on Facebook?

LiveScience offers some tips gleaned from a recent study:

  • Respond to posts: If someone posts on your wall, reciprocate. The study found this to be the single most important factor in a successful Facebook friendship.
  • Cool it with the photos: Don't post embarrassing pictures of friends—and think twice before you post anything on a friend's wall about the crazy weekend you all had, since you never know who might see it ... and judge.
  • Wish acquaintances a happy birthday: The researchers found that people consider it more important that their casual acquaintances send Facebook birthday wishes than that their close friends do so. That's because close friends can always call, text, or say it in person instead.
  • Don't get too familiar: If you're simply acquaintances with someone, don't try to use Facebook chat with them or post on their wall (except on their birthday, of course), because that could be considered creepy.
Wanna know HOW to be a good FRIEND?

Quit facebook, give your friend a call. Or better yet, go see them when time allows.;)

LMFAO! Joe Biden Campaign Photo

Check out  this amazing photo from Barack Obama’s campaign website, accurately noting that this pic of Joe Biden on the campaign trail “couldn’t be more Biden-y”:

What is he doing in that photo??? He’s got one foot up on a wooden stool on a stage wearing sunglasses and intensely scowling off into the distance in front of a crowd that isn’t even focused on him. Meaning, it’s perfect.

Maybe it’s one of those Facebook photos where he was posing for an inside joke then Obama tagged him so everyone saw it and he’s like “Awww, come on, I look like an idiot if you don’t know the story behind that photo!” (This is 97% of my own Facebook photos, so I sympathize, dude.)

I Want This Dog Baby In My Arms

This gentleman was spotted taking his dog to the Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in State College, PA.

Yes, that is his dog, and not some sort of Star Wars extra, you see babying himself on his owner’s chest like a gigantic furry Baby Björn. The photo is already a viral hit on Facebook, but we’d be remiss not to share it with you here. Mainly because I would put that dog in a sailor suit, hot glue a giant lollipop in his paw, and make NO EYE CONTACT with anyone on the streets.

A Facebook App Can Leave a Farewell Message for Your Friends... After You Die

So here's an uplifting question for you: do you ever think about what your last words to your family and friends will be? And have you ever dreamt that you might leave your final thoughts on... Facebook?

0111-facebook-death-app_vg.jpg

If I Die is a new Facebook app that lets you pre-program farewell videos and messages to appear on your wall after you die. You appoint three "trustees" who need to confirm that you have actually died in order to trigger the messages to post, and then--voila! Your 384 friends are looped in.

Huh. Okay. Well, here's one thing I like about this: it makes you think about some of the logistics of what'll happen after you die. Not in a morbid way. The fact is, about 55% of American adults don't have wills and they totally should. Illness and accidents can (and often do, unfortunately) happen quickly--it's a really, really good idea to plan ahead. Just saying.

But leaving your final words on Facebook? I can't explain why, but it feels kind of bizarre, like messing with the space-time continuum. I don't even know how I'd react to a friend's farewell on FB. And if I left a goodbye message, I just know that the recently-departed-but-still-neurotic me would worry that my final thoughts hadn't gotten enough "likes."

Lance Bass Debuts Terrible Boyband Sure to Sell a Billion Records

Blondie with the abs can stay, as can the little one with red pants. The fella with the star tattoo under his eye (Did he kill a popstar?) and his two pals have got to go though.

NSYNC’s third most famous alumni (and fifth best singer) Lance Bass has left his stamp of approval on new boyband Heart2Heart’s debut single about updating your Facebook status. OK, so his stamp is actually more of a Michael and Janet Scream glowy booth snippet, but whatever.
The group seems to be a parody…we think? Still, their music video for Facebook Official has over 600,000 views at press time. It’s hard to tell if we’re watching legitimate singers trying to break through via questionable media like five Rebecca Blacks with balls (maybe?) or simply a new 2Gether.

Either way, Entertainment Weekly has rounded up the five LOLiest lyrics from their single.

5.’Heart2Heart is back/ FB chat poppin’ on my Mac.’ 4.’C’mon/ Myspace is dead/ I’m checking your page to see what you said.’
3.’Heart on your page/Heart, heart on your page/let’s make it official.’
2. ‘Can you confirm this request/Agree to my terms of service.’
1.’Status update/what/checking pics of your butt.’
The song kind of has to be heard to be believed. And in that respect, Bass and his boyband will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Real? Spoof? A hit either way? What do you think of Facebook Official?

Facebook Timeline, Or Who Needs Baby Books?

Aye yaye yaye. Facebook’s redesign continues to grow, and now we’ve been introduced to some sort of newfangled product called Timeline. Mark Zuckerberg calls it “all the stories, all your apps, a new way to express who you are.” In other words, it’s basically 100% YOU. Or something.
Says Gizmodo:
As you move down your Timeline, it condenses your story the further back you go. It’s Time Machine for your life. In order to navigate to specific years, Timeline navigation on the right-hand side is available for users to choose a year. The timeline for each year shows users the most important Facebook posts of that year.
So now your autobiography is available to the girl that bit your face in kindergarten. She can see just how important your life is because that’s officially a thing. Still confused? Me too. Here, this vague, heartwarming video might make you feel better (or not):

How To Guilt Your Facebook Friends Into Never Defriending You

The thought of getting all 192 profile pictures of your Facebook friends tattooed into your ar sounds like some kind of shit that would be the star of The Museum of Shitty Tattoos. But after watching this video of a woman doing just that, I have to admit that it doesn't look like a yearbook page that was printed out on a sheet of thin skin from a faulty inkjet printer. It actually looks pretty good. I wonder if Miss Facebook Sleeve asked all of her 192 friends for permission before she did this?

A Newborn Baby is Named “Facebook”

An Egyptian man in his 20s just named his baby girl Facebook Jamal Ibrahim. A resident of the Ibrahimya region, he named her after the social networking site in order to show his gratitude for Facebook’s role in the January 25 protests.

Maybe it's brave or creative or progressive or a rising trend.
But okay. I have so many questions. Was this an impulse decision or did he sleep on it?
What if he gets sick of Facebook (the site) and wants to cancel his profile?
Also, I wonder what Mark Zuckerberg is thinking right now. I mean, someone named a child after something Mark basically invented.

Well, it sounds better than some silly made up names AND it has a greater cultural/historical significance. Incredible. What influence!
