Marcelito Pomoy was hailed as the new grand champion of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2 at the Araneta Coliseum last night. The 25-year-old garnered 19.56% of votes and bested the other 13 finalists in the second year of the country’s most celebrated talent search program. As grand champion, Marcelito was awarded with the two million peso cash prize.
From selling balut and ice cream on the streets of Imus in Cavite, Marcelito’s life changed when he auditioned on PGT 2. He immediately caught the attention of judges Kris Aquino, Ai Ai De Las Alas, and Freddie Garcia with his ability to sing with both male and female voices. Marcelito found his way on the stage of the Araneta Coliseum for the PGT 2 finale where he performed The Prayer popularized by Andrea Boccelli and Celine Dion.
Marcelito cried tears of joy hearing his name announced as the winner. He then thanked all the viewers who believed in his talent and voted for him. Making his victory much more memorable was the presence of his father who was mostly absent during his growing years. Now all that Marcelito could ask for is to finally have a complete family.
Placing second with 18.32% of votes was the tap dancing brother from Bukidnon, Ramonito and Norlito, known as Happy Feet. In third place was Freestylers, an acrobatic hip hop dance group from Calamba, with 9.46% of votes. For being part of the top three, Happy Feet and Freestylers won one hundred thousand pesos each. Meanwhile, the other eleven finalists took home fifty thousand pesos each.
The PGT 2 finale also showcased other world-class talents courtesy of big star performers like Zsa Zsa Padilla, 6 CycleMind, Aiza Seguerra, Gab Valenciano, John Prats, Jhong Hilario, Rayver Cruz, and Gary Valenciano. The results night also became the top trending topic on Twitter worldwide. Starting this July 2, season three of Pilipinas Got Talent is ready for its next search of up-and-coming stars.
